The Alliance Française is the largest and oldest network of French language and cultural centers in the world. It was founded in 1883 in Paris, France. Chapters across the world are dedicated to promoting French language and francophone culture in order to foster relationships between people of all nationalities, ethnicity, and backgrounds.
Alliance Française de Richmond, Chapitre Rochambeau (AFR), is one of 850 chapters worldwide, and one of over 100 in the United States. Originally founded as the Accueil Français, it officially became an Alliance Française chapter in 2012.
Today, AFR has over 100 members with around 50 events annually, all designed to connect French speakers and those interested in French culture throughout Richmond and Central Virginia.
The Alliance Française de Richmond is volunteer based. It is operated by an elected Board and volunteers. Members of the Board for 2022-24 are Brian Burns (president), Yasmin Samuel (treasurer), and Liz Myers (secretary). Numerous other volunteers help with the administration and our increasing activities.
At the present time AF Richmond is a social club. We do not offer formal classes yet, but we do have a French conversation group once a month and a very active children/family group who meet once a month and is planning a summer camp the last week of June 2023. Come join them!
AFR is now a 501(c)3 and your tax deductible donations are welcome.
