Bordeaux Immersion Course — October 2–10, 2026

Offered by the Alliance Française of Richmond in collaboration with the Alliance Française Bordeaux Nouvelle-Aquitaine

Experience eight unforgettable days of language, culture, and discovery in one of France’s most celebrated regions. Our 2026 French Language Immersion Course offers a rare opportunity to pair high‑quality instruction with the everyday rhythms of life in Bordeaux. From the city’s elegant 18th‑century architecture to its world‑renowned vineyards and vibrant café culture, Bordeaux provides the perfect backdrop for deepening your French while savoring one of the country’s most enchanting destinations. This program is designed not just as a trip, but as a transformative learning experience—one that blends academic rigor with the joy of exploring a region rich in history, flavor, and charm.

Each morning from 9 am to 1 pm, students will participate in intensive language classes at the Alliance Française of Bordeaux, an institution internationally recognized for its excellence in teaching French to learners of all levels. Afternoons are devoted to curated cultural excursions that bring the language to life: visits to local markets, guided tours of historic neighborhoods, tastings in nearby vineyards, and opportunities to engage with the community. This truly immersive structure is ideal for anyone seeking meaningful, measurable progress in their French. With its long‑established track record of helping students advance rapidly, the Alliance Française of Bordeaux provides the perfect foundation for a program that is both academically rewarding and deeply memorable.

The program will be led by one or two teachers from the Alliance Française of Richmond, who will accompany participants throughout the afternoon activities. Their presence ensures continuity between classroom learning and real‑world practice, offering students ongoing support as they navigate cultural experiences, interact with locals, and apply the language in authentic settings. This guided structure helps reinforce the morning lessons and creates a warm, cohesive learning community throughout the trip.

A second information session will be held on February 26, 2026, at 7:30 pm, for those who would like a deeper understanding of the program. This session will provide additional details about the itinerary, accommodations, and academic components, and will offer ample time for questions. This is a great chance for prospective participants to learn more and decide if the immersion experience is a good fit for their goals.

Registration opens on March 1, 2026.

What the Program Includes:

Flexible Accommodations

Choose the experience that suits you best:

  • Home‑stay with a local family.  This option includes both breakfast and dinner with your host family.  The option typically allows the student to progress further and is the preferred option.  If this option is not for you, we also offer the following Studio Apartment option.

  • Studio Apartments in central Bordeaux at Hotel Adagio Gambetta.  This option provides you with a kitchenette if you prefer to cook for yourself, or enjoy the numerous dining options throughout Bordeaux.

  • Lunches are not included in the program except for one day.

Morning Language Classes

Daily French morning lessons, led by instructors from the Alliance Française de Bordeaux, are designed to help you make meaningful progress in your French. These sessions are designed to strengthen your ability to speak and understand spoken French, while also improving your reading and writing skills.  Language lessons are conducted at the various levels of the students (e.g., B1, B2, A2).

Afternoon Cultural Activities

A curated selection of group excursions and cultural experiences, including:

  • A guided city walk and tour of central Bordeaux.

  • A day-long tour to the coast, Arcachon Bay, and the charming seaside town of Arcachon (Sunday, October 4). This tour leaves mid-morning and will return around 18h and includes an oyster and wine tasting event.

  • Dégustation de fromages, sampling the regions' cheeses.

  • A visit to a local atelier patisserie where students will learn to bake (and taste!) French patisseries.

  • A visit to the famous chocolaterie, Chocolateria Saunion.

  • A group lunch together in Bordeaux.

  • A welcome apéro on Friday afternoon, October 2nd
