Le Rochambeau - août 2025

Bonjour membres et amis,

This fall marks the start of our third year of adult education classes, and we are pleased to announce that we have a full suite of classes to offer our members. All of our fall classes are now available for registration. If you have any questions, please let us know.

We will be offering a wide variety of adult classes, including both in-person and virtual,  ranging from the new beginner level through B2. We hope you find something that interests you. You can find out more information and register here or through our "Learn" page.

Our Bastille Day celebration was a big success and our venue was full with great music and food and our members, friends and guests.  Elliott Norman on the piano led us through the Marseille. Additionally, filmmaker and artist Joan Bofill of Barcelona provided us an overview of his documentary, Raymond Roussel: Le jour de gloire, a cinematic exploration of the visionary French writer. We ended the evening sharing some delicious desserts, including some amazing pies from Proper Pie in Churchill.

A few days later, on the 14th, many of us attended one of three Bastille day events that day at Can Can Brasserie. Can Can hosted this event with dancers from the Richmond Ballet pefroming for the crowd. It was a wonderful evening and it was great to see so many of the Alliance members and friends together for this special event.

On August 6th, author Evie Woods will be discussing her book The Mysterious Bakery on Rue de Paris. You can find out more and register for this Federation of Alliances Françaises event here.

On August 28th, join French Film critic Peter DeBrugge for a discussion in English on the film L’été dernier. You can find more information and register for this Federation of Alliances Françaises event here.

On September 20th, Club de lecture - In September, our Alliance book club will jump into The Bonjour Effect by Julie Barlow & Jean-Benoît Nadeau—a witty and insightful look at the nuances of French communication and culture. It’s our first English-language selection in a while, and you still have 6 weeks to read it! You can find more information here.
