Le Rochambeau - May 2024
Bonjour,
The Alliance wishes you all the best on this last day of April 2024.
First, a few updates on last month's activities. We had a wonderful visit to the Virginia Museum of History & Culture on April 12th. We visited the Julia Child exhibit there, which covers her history in France and the USA. It is extremely well done, and if you weren't able to join us, it is still showing until September 2nd. After our visit, the group shared an Apéro at a nearby café.
On April 7th, our French family group hosted an event at Park 360, with approximately ten families attending. The children had a picnic lunch and played French games with their friends. A big highlight for everyone was reading French books with the adults in the group.
Looking forward to the days and weeks ahead of us, our spring French course registration is now open. Our new session starts this week and there is still time to register. If you have plans to travel to France this summer, this might be a great way to refresh your French language skills. You can register here.
Secondly, registration for our children's summer camp is still open for our older age group (ages 7-9). Our 4-6 age group is now full, but we have a couple of spots still open in the older group. You can register your child here.
This Saturday May 4th our long-time members Sam and Matilda will be hosting a Kentucky Derby Apero. We will play some pétanque, watch the race and share a dish among the Alliance members and their guests. Registration is available for members here.
On May 18th, we will be hosting a book discussion at the West End library. The discussion, in french, will center on the award winning novel "Le Mage du Kremlin", or the "Wizard of the Kremlin". You can register here for the event.
On May 30th, former VCU Professor Chantal Marechal will be conducting a discussion of the architectural history and intrigue of the Seine bridges in Paris. This event will take place at the Libbie Mill Library. More details can be found here.
Our French family group has been very active and is growing. The next French family event has been planned for Saturday June 1. All are welcome, and you can register with the following link.
And finally, please mark your calendars for our Bastille Day celebration on July 14th. Details on the event will be shared in early June.
That’s all for now. We look forward to seeing you at one of our upcoming events.
